What is GSB Material ?

GSB Material, also known as Granular Sub-Base Material, is a type of construction material used in road and pavement construction in India. It is a blend of granular aggregates, such as crushed stone or gravel, sand and fines. GSB Material is used as a layer above the foundation to provide stability and strength to the road surface.

GSB Material is widely used in the Indian construction industry due to its cost-effectiveness and durability. It helps in even load distribution on the road, preventing the formation of potholes and ensuring the longevity of the road. These materials are also known for their excellent drainage properties due to more space even in the compressed condition, which helps soak the water and reduce the chances of road deterioration due to water accumulation.

Composition used of GSB Material

The composition of GSB materials may vary depending on the various factors, including construction site and project specifications. In standard GSB materials, crushed stones, sand, rock crumbles and gravel are used. The standard composition involves about 50 percent of crushed stones, CBR materials around 30 percent and PI materials nearly six percent. Furthermore, the composition should also have water absorption of more than two percent and Aggregate impact value (AIV) should be over 40 percent.
